How To Pass A Hair Follicle Drug Test In 2024? (15+ Hair Washes)

The hair follicle drug test is usually the most dreaded one. Figuring out how to pass a hair follicle drug test is mindboggling, but it can be done.

With a urine test, you can simply use marijuana detox or even synthetic urine. With the saliva test, you can get some neutralizing gums.

The hair drug test, however, is the hardest to fool. To make things worse, the THC molecule stays in the hair much longer than in saliva or urine.

Here is a quick look at how long after the last use can marijuana be detected by different drug tests:

hair-follicle-test-detection-times
See why hair tests are a bother? You can be caught up to 3 months after smoking.

Because there is a lot (and I mean a lot) of misinformation around hair analysis, I’m going to present some quick facts about hair drug tests. Here are the big 3:

  1. One-time smokers don’t have to be concerned with how to pass a hair follicle drug test. THC gathers in hair only in prolonged use (regular smokers).
  2. Most of ‘How to pass a hair drug test’ shampoos don’t really guarantee to pass a hair follicle drug test on their own. You need something stronger to extract THC out of your hair – usually complete hair care with conditioner and purifier (shampoo alone is not enough). And even this is doubtful to work!
  3. If you shave your hair, you’re safe. Well, no – drug testers can take body hair from the underarm, chest, and legs. But if you shave those as well, you’re safe!

We’ll start off with more of these straight facts (because the internet is full of nonsense and people trying to answer how to pass a follicle hair test without using science) and I’ll explain the following in simple terms:

  • How does hair drug testing even work (how much hair they take and from – they take it from the root, by the way).
  • What happens if you decide to shave all of your hair before a hair follicle drug test.
    how-much-hair-for-hair-follicle-drug-test
A nurse only takes 1.5 inches of your hair from the root.
  • Why using a detox shampoo on its own for a hair drug test is a bunch of nonsense and using it is not a guaranteed way to pass a hair follicle drug test. If you want to pass a hair follicle drug test, you need to use a specialized detox shampoo and, most importantly, a purifier. And even this is not a 100% guarantee of passing.
  • How to pass a hair drug test with shampoo, conditioner, and purifier (This is the best chance you have for passing a hair drug test, short of shaving all over).
  • How you can test yourself if your hair is drug (THC, cocaine, meth) positive with a hair drug test kit.

In short, you’ll need shampoo to pass a hair follicle drug test (Old Style Toxin Rid shampoo works best with Ultra Clean treatment that includes a purifier), and optionally a drug test to confirm – so 1 of each:

How To Pass A Hair Follicle Drug Test – Misconceptions and Facts

A good thing about a hair drug test is that usually you’re alerted beforehand – hair drug testing counts as ‘toxicology screening‘. They don’t just come in and take a sample like with a saliva drug test. You have a few days to prepare. Who usually asks you to do it?

  • Your current employer. If they want to check up on you, at random or every few years as regulated by law.
  • Your future employer. Admittedly, they are usually required by law to do a hair drug test.
  • Parents, partners, you name it. They might choose a hair follicle drug test because it’s nearly impossible to cheat and it gives a positive result if you’ve smoked heavily in the last three months.

Will I Pass Hair Drug Test If I’ve Been Second Smoking? No Guarantees.

Well, second smoking how heavily?

If your friends smoke and you’ve been around them for a while, you don’t have to be worried about how to pass a hair follicle drug test. You are guaranteed to pass a hair drug test because there is little to no THC in your hair. Yes, your hair might smell of weed, but even if you don’t wash it, the hair drug test will not detect any THC. Why?

hair-follicle-drug-test-THC
THC outside the hair doesn’t matter. The inside of the hair is the problem.

THC from smoking marijuana travels from lungs to blood and via blood to hair follicles. The hair drug test doesn’t measure if weed stuck to your hair directly via smoke – it detected THC inside of the hair, where it came from being in the blood.

Even if you inhaled a bit around friends who were smoking, that is not a thing to be concerned about. The amount of THC that was transferred to your blood is minimum and will not show up on a hair follicle drug test.

How This Hair Drug Test Myth Was Born (‘Nah, it wasn’t me who smoked, yo’)

Why do some people still think second smoking will make them positive on a hair follicle drug test? Because most of the true smokers, when they tested positive, said “Nah, man, I didn’t smoke, I was just around a bunch of people who did. Second-hand smoking kills you in the end, right?”

I’ve got nothing again some good excuses because, frankly, nobody should lose their job because they smoked some. However, this kind of excuse started a myth that second-hand smoking can be detected via not only a hair drug test but urine and saliva drug tests as well.

How Hair Is Collected For A Drug Test (1.5 inches from the root)

This is what a lot of people going for a hair drug test don’t know. Usually a nurse or certified professional will take about 1.5 inches of your hair. The hair is collected from the root. That’s right, they only take 1.5 inches from the scalp.

Of course, they will chop off your hair from the root, even if you have 30 inches long hair. However, for a hair drug test, they’ll use only the beginning of the hair (the side that came from your scalp). Those are the new hair and 1.5 inches of that hair can hold THC if you’ve smoked in last 90 days (hair grows about 0.5 inches per month).

The other part of the hair is discarded and not used in the hair follicle drug test. Why? Simple because data collected from that part would not be valid. After more than 3 months, most of the THC goes out anyhow and if you haven’t smoked heavily up to 3 months before a drug test via hair, you have nothing to worry about.

One-Time Smokers Have Nothing To Worry About (Only Heavy Smokers Need To Worry)

A lot of times, the one most petrified of hair drug test are one-time smokers. You know, people who just tried it once at college.

Even if you smoked a lot during that one session, you don’t have to worry about it as far as how to pass a hair follicle drug test is considered. Yes, if you might test positive with mouth swab drug test or urine test, but for hair drug test, THC really has to accumulate in the hair for longer periods of time.

Hair Drug Test Can Be Up To 5 Times More Effective Than Urine Drug Test

This is the main reason why drug test via hair follicle is employed. It catches up to five times as many users as a standard urine test. Why?

Well, for a urine test, you can detox (you can read about to do a THC detox here). What is more, with moderate use of marijuana, after about 7 days, there will be no trace of THC in the urine anymore. In hair, the THC residue will remain up to 3 months!

There are no quick detoxes for the hair drug test (only shampoo-conditioner-purifier we’re going to talk about – and even that is questionable if it really helps). The only true way of how to pass a hair follicle drug test is to look for a shampoo with purifier (I’ll explain this a bit later).

How Long Is Body Hair Detection Time? (Over 90 Days)

Head hair drug test detection time is about 90 days. In the test protocol, they take 1.5 inches of hair from the root and test it. Because head hair grows about 0.5 inches in 30 days (1 month), the head hair drug test goes back about 3 months.

If you don’t have head hair (boldness or haircut style with no hair), the tester will take body hair ONLY from these three places:

  • Under armpit
  • Chest hair
  • Leg hair

Many people think they have to shave all of their body. Only these three places are valid for taking a sample for body hair drug test.

It is a lot easier for women to avoid this – they usually shave armpits and legs, and have no chest hair anyway. However, women are in 99% of cases tested via head hair (obviously). You find a lot more bold men that bold women (or those with such hairstyle preference).

Men, however, in most cases have armpit hair, chest and leg hair.

Body Hair Grows Slower (Accumulates THC For Longer Periods Of Time)

Take chest hair for example. How long does it take to grow to full length? Usually much more than 3 months or 90 days.

A tester will take 1.5 inches (or less) chest hair for the hair drug test. Because that hair might be growing for up to 6 months, the THC, which indicates marijuana smoking, can be found in the hair. That means that the body hair drug test can catch you even after 6 months (that is for heavy smokers, of course).

What Happens If I Shave Everywhere? (You Can’t Be Tested With Hair Drug Test)

This is also an idea and it is the 100% guarantee you won’t be caught on hair follicle drug test. Why? Because you have no hair, you can’t even be tested.

how-to-pass-a-hair-follicle-drug-test
No hair drug test with no hair, right? They’ll just test your saliva or urine.

Of course, they will put you on a saliva drug test or urine drug test but for that, you only need about 7 days for the body to detox itself and you can even help it with THC detox.

However, HR might get suspicious if you just shave your hair. They can’t prove anything but even if you do pass a standard urine drug test, they might shortlist you for drug testing.

Why Is Detox Shampoo For Hair Drug Test Useless? (Treats The Hair Surface, Not Insides)

Here’s the thing. The THC in the hair is not on the outside of the hair. You don’t get it because of the exposure to THC-rich smoke. That could be cleaned out with shampoo.

You get it via bloodstream feeding your hair follicles. And it is, of course, inside the hair. You can’t get it ‘out’ with just a shampoo.

I really thought this is pretty obvious when it comes to how to pass a hair follicle drug test.

That doesn’t stop people from trying to pass a hair drug test with such shampoos, though. Here is one shampoo that is being sold to pass a hair follicle drug test (on the right).

This hair drug test shampoo looks pretty cool, right? Just notice the 100% guarantee. That’s the company trying to make it much more legit that it deserves to be.

You won’t believe this, but people still buy into that.

Nevertheless, it is only shampoo. It won’t extract the THC from inside the hair.

Here are some reviews of this ‘100% pass hair drug test shampoo detox’ crap.

hair-drug-test-shampoo-reviews

Well, there you have it. Of course, it doesn’t work – it’s only a shampoo! What were you thinking, were you high or something? Oh…that might be the reason. Ok, let’s cool down and see what might actually work.

Hair Drug Test Detox Shampoo + Conditioner + Purifier (Best Choice But Still Isn’t 100% Guarantee)

These detox shampoos are not all bad. They are actually quite useful IF they can penetrate into the hair. However, normal shampoo can’t do that.

When trying to pass a hair drug test, you really need to be looking at products that ensure that shampoo will actually reach the insides of the hair. Only from there THC can be truly extracted and gets your hair clean for a hair follicle drug test.

Is there a thing that does that? Yes, it’s called the purifier. This is basically a substance that penetrates inside the inner structure of the hair itself. When the shampoo is thus allowed to come inside the hair, it dissolves THC and it can be washed out.

Ensure Passing On Your Hair Drug Test (Rinse really REALLY good)

Of course, you have to wash out most of THC to test negative on hair drug test. This is why this is not a 100% guarantee method. However, you can increase the chances of getting THC out with:

  • Repeat shampooing.
  • Heavy (and I mean heavy) rinsing. Leave the shampoo on for a longer time than it says to ensure it will dissolve and wash out all of the THC.
  • Choosing the best shampoo + purifier combo.

Oh yeah, there is this thing where you have a conditioner with the shampoo + purifier combo. That actually does nothing to wash out the THC – it just makes your hair smooth and nice. So, if your goal is to pass a hair drug test, you can get things with or without a conditioner (doesn’t really make a difference).

Here is pretty much the industry standard for passing a hair drug test:

You’ll notice that this Hair Follicle Shampoo doesn’t only have shampoo but, far more important, a purifier! I can’t really stress enough how a purifier is essential for passing a hair follicle drug test. Without it, all the shampoo is going to do is clean the outsides of your hair and get your ass fired in the process.

hair follicle shampoo
2 step hair cleaning: 1) Shampoo, and 2) Purifier.

Just keep in mind to rinse really well. It’s better to rinse one more time and keep the shampoo on a bit longer than it says just to make SURE that all of the THC will go out. This is the best chance of passing a hair follicle drug test. You can get the Hair Follicle Shampoo here. Just read about how quickly it can be shipped so that it will be at your home before you have to take a hair drug test.

Test, Test, Test! (Test your hair if they are THC-positive before taking a hair drug test)

This is the common mistake people that get caught make. They could have avoided it just by checking for themselves if their hair still has THC.

There are several options why there can still be THC in your hair:

  • You used just the shampoo. Doesn’t work on its own.
  • You used a shampoo + purifier but didn’t rinse enough.
  • Thinking you’ll pass a hair drug test, you know, by doing nothing on it and just the destiny take its course.

Well, if you’re leaving it up to destiny, then you don’t really need to test yourself.

For everybody else, you can get a hair drug test kit and test yourself before taking a real test.

Hair Drug Test Kit (Expensive But Can Be Worth It For Heavy Users)

If you don’t want to leave it up to chance, you can test your hair yourself. What you’ll need is the following:

  • 1.5 inches of your hair (cut from the root).
  • A hair drug test kit. See the Hair Confirm kit for more details.
  • Follow the instructions in the kit.
Hair Confirm Regular
Hair drug test kit.

Believe me, testing yourself is the best way to know if you need to take action (such as buying a shampoo + purifier, or doing another rinse with it).

Hope You Got Everything To Pass A Hair Drug Test Now

This is pretty much it. The best option to pass a hair drug test is to shave your hair, armpits, legs, and chest. However, they’ll just give you another drug test (admittedly, you’ll pass that one with more ease).

The general take away is that you have to wash your hair with a shampoo that is able to penetrate into the hair. That’s why you need a purifier added to the shampoo if you want to pass a hair follicle drug test and this is how to do it.

Hopefully, now you’ve got all you need to know how to pass a hair follicle drug test. Just make sure you’ll pass it beforehand with a kit and you’ll be in the safe zone.

Remember. Better safe than sorry.

If I smoked like 8 times in the last two months (once a day for 4 days and then 4 random times) will I pass a hair test? My hair is short so I think they will take body hair. Thanks!

1 average joint with 0.3 grams of weed contains about 12 mg of pure THC. 8 such joints would yield about 100 mg of THC; that’s a sizable load. For the test, they take 1.5 inches – hair does grow at about 0.5 inches per month (1 inch in two months), body hair grows slowers. Given the sizable load, I would think there is a likelihood you would fail a drug test. The problem with the hair test is that it depends on several factors and you can only make a rough estimate. Hope this helps.

What do you think about if I smoked one time ( like 2 hits from a blunt) 60 days ago and then 15 days before that, I hit a wax pen a couple of times. Before that I smoked about one time a month or every two months a couple hits each time cause I am a lightweight now. Do you think I would pass a hair follicle test next week?

I think you have good chances of passing the test. Only high blood concentrations of THC will allow for THC to penetrate into the hair follicles in a measurable quantity. 2 hints from a blunt and a couple of wax pen hits probably doesn’t supply enough THC into the body to sufficiently penetrate into the hair. Wish you all the luck!

Thank you, Johan. You shouldn’t worry about the hair test. 6 months is a long period; there are cases where THC was detected in hair follicles 3 months after the last use but never 6 months. You also shouldn’t worry about being in a room where people smoked – THC enters the hair follicles via bloodstream, not air. Wish you all the best!

Hi Bill, being 75 days clean really improves the chances of passing. In your case, you have a high probability of passing; the problem with the hair test is that you can never be 100% sure. Hope everything goes well!

Up to the ‘ate a brownie’ everything was perfect. 2 puffs is nothing, a brownie is something, but for THC to be detected in the hair you would have to experience a prolonged period of time with high concentrations of THC in the blood. All things considered, you have an extremely low chance of failing a hair drug test.

The sooner you start using the shampoo the better. If there is a considerable amount of THC in your hair, it makes sense to start washing it out as thoroughly as possible. Without new THC coming in, the cleanse is good forever.

96 days is quite a long time. For THC to stay in the hair follicles after such a long time, you would really have to hit a couple of joints per day, every day, for a prolonged period of time (a week or so). That would elevate the THC blood levels high enough so that a sufficient amount of it would be absorbed by the hair follicles and still be detectable after 3 months.

6’2″ 180lbs, male, caucasion with blonde hair, actively workout. Last time I smoked was 91 days ago and was a daily smoker of maybe 2 one-hitters/per day. I have 22 days until my test so that leaves me at 113 total days abstained.. Out of all my research, its too close to call.
Question 1) Do you think Ill pass with cutting my hair to 1.5″ before the test? Question 2) would they accept a hair sample at 1.25 inch if I cut it that low? Question 3) A little theory I had, what do you think… A month before my test I trimmed all my body hair down to the skin. Supposedly after a month the hair on your legs looks normal again. Would it be wise to just cut my head hair down to 1.25 inches, and if they dont take that, my body hair would also be clean right?

You’re right, this is too close to call.
Average hair growth is about 0.5”/month; in 113 days you should grow more than 1.5” of ‘new’ hair which will be used for testing.
      1) I would recommend doing a home hair test on your before you cut it. If it’s negative, you’re home free. If it’s positive, cutting it down to 1.5” makes sense (all the THC should be deposited in the hair longer than 1.5”). The regular Hair Confirm test should do the trick. If it’s positive, I just hope you don’t LOVE your hair too much.
      2) The standardized measure is 1.5”. All the tests and equipment are calibrated to 1.5”. I’m doubtful a good lab would accept 1.25”.
      3) Basically, if you cut down all the hair, you’re an automatic winner. After a month all the hair should look pretty normal and you would be scot-free. It’s just very inconvenient to cut all the hair everywhere.

Remarkably good. The total THC from 2 or 3 joints is negligible since it doesn’t boost the blood THC enough for the molecule to penetrate into the hair follicles.

Cutting hair certainly helps because you’re throwing away old THC-rich hair. The newly grown hair doesn’t contain THC if you’re not puffing it like crazy while it’s growing.
The hair test is conducted quickly enough, the results are in pretty fast as well, however, the companies ordering the tests aren’t usually as quick. If they don’t notify you in two weeks, you might be a bit concerned, but all in all, you shouldn’t worry about companies not being expedient enough.

I have a hair drug test coming up on June 12th. In the last 90 days, I only consumed weed on March 22nd. I took a few hits from a grav bong. Also, my hair has grown 2 inches around then since it grows fast. Will I be okay?

Note: I also took a few hits from a grav bong in mid-February which is past the 90 day point. I am a very infrequent smoker nowadays, but my tolerance built up since I smoked almost daily in the spring of 2018.

Given that a few hits from a grav bong were about 80 days prior to the test, there is a low possibility it will show on a hair drug test. The amount of THC in a few hits is very low and the quantity of THC that was likely delivered into the hair follicles should be almost impossible to detect after 80 or so days. Hope everything goes well!

Feb 2nd is more than 100 days ago and the two hits in April wouldn’t be enough to deliver THC to your hair follicles and into the newly grown hair. You have a very high probability of passing a hair test.

The smart plan of action would be to test your hair and if it’s negative, you needn’t worry about it. If it’s positive, a good shampoo with purifier will reduce the chances of testing positive significantly. The most concerning thing is this: if the half-joints were spaced out evenly, the THC from each of them might end up in the hair and currently they are in different stages/levels of hair. The shampoo + purifier combo eliminates the THC in the outermost layers of hair (cuticle) very efficiently. However, if some of the THC is in the middle of the hair (medulla), it’s harder to reach, nigh impossible without the purifier. Hopefully this helps a bit.

Cutting hair is usually not effective – the lab will take the newly grown hair (ones closes to your scalp) and that’s the hair that has to be THC-free. If you quit in March 2019 and now we’re in August 2019, that’s about 5 months. An average person would grow about 2.5 inches of new hair in this time and they only take 1.5 inches. So, if the new hair is THC-free, you have nothing to worry about.

I have a hair drug test some time in July. I had one half a gummy bear say April and one half sometime in February or March. My hair grows slower than average, blond and fine. Thoughts?

If we assume a gummy bear with a 200 mg to 300 mg THC content, you should be fine. Hair grows about 1/2 inch per month, there are 2 full months between April and July, and the lab tech takes 1.5 inches of hair. Fortunately, the THC content of gummy bears is not very high, the absorption from the upper intestines is not even close to 100%; considering several factors, you have a high chance of passing a hair drug test.

I have a hair follicle test tomorrow for a great job opportunity. The last time I smoked was around the middle of may and I’ve been clean ever since. I’m a very infrequent smoker and before may i would smoke every week or every other week. I feel like my chances of passing the test is very slim and I’m honestly considering just to refuse the job. It’s only a summer job but it is in the field of study I am in at school. any thoughts?

It’s impossible to say but, based on the info on smoking frequency and the timeline, you are facing a 50:50 chance of passing/failing. Should you decided to take the test, please do let us know how it went. I think this kind of 50:50 example can give our fellow smokers some nice insight. In any case, good luck!

It should; the THC in weed is the most tricky one because it’s soluble in oil, not in water.

I ate half a cookie April 21st. Before that, I hadn’t done anything for about six years or so. The cookie was very strong, I haven’t had anything like it. I didn’t have any more after that. I may have a test coming up in the next few weeks, and I don’t know what type it will be. I tried an at home urine kit, and I cleared it. But I don’t know about the hair follicle test. Is half a strong cookie enough for it to get into your hair follicles? I can’t exactly shave my hair off.

Hello Nina. The hair drug test is quite tricky; the THC stays in your hair way longer than in your urine. In more than 90% of cases, the drug test of choice is a standard urinary drug test which you’ll pass. Hoping for the best!

Well, obviously, you shouldn’t continue smoking if you’re facing a drug test.

First, let me say thanks for the advice. Here’s my question. I smoked one .5 gram joint at a Ziggy Marley concert in Portland 06/14/2019. I took one hit off a roach 2 weeks prior to that. I’m not a regular smoker anymore. I had a company reach out to me with a great opportunity and they’re known to do hair follicle testing and urine. I tested my urine 06/24/2019 and was clean. I have a crazy high metabolism. Should I be concerned? I’ve read about people who have smoked 1-2 times in the window are pretty safe. But I’ve also read that they can detect as little as one hit and have no clue what to trust. Thanks again for the advice.

Thank you for the question, Roach. It takes a bit more than a single hit for the THC in marijuana to reach the hair follicles. High metabolism is great to have as far as urine drug test is concerned but is of little use in a hair drug test. I hope they won’t go for a hair drug test; you do have high chances of passing the hair test but it’s not exactly 100%. Hope everything goes well.

    Hello!
I had three gummy bears a month ago. And I had 3-4 puffs from an oil pen last week. Nothing else. I have a hair test two weeks from now. Any chance I pass?
    Thanks!

I think it’s more likely you’ll pass than not. Maybe a home hair test wouldn’t be a bad idea just to make sure you’re negative and ease your concerns. If you’re positive, washing your hair like crazy might help a bit.

What are my chances of me passing or failing a hair test. I was a heavy smoker for a couple years. I stopped smoking in February 2019 and the last time I smoked was 4-20-2019 but I took a couple drags from a joint. I been clean up to this day which is 7-23-2019. They will be doing armpit and leg hair.

Last time was on 4-20-2019? Ah, I see! If you were a heavy smoker, your ‘old’ hair is definitely full of THC. Your ‘new’ hair, however, will test negative on a hair drug test. It really depends on how quickly does the armpit and leg hair grow; I don’t know exactly the speed of armrpit and leg hair growth. In any case, they will take the part that is closest to your skin which is great for you. I hope all goes well!

Well I haven’t trim my armpit hairs so I mean I know I grow news ones but it’s kinda hard to say which is new and which is old.. I also put in my two weeks at my current job before I go to the new company to take a hair test but I don’t know if it will help the process. Do you have any tips on what I should do ?

I was a everyday smoker for 8 years. maybe a gram or two a day of high grade stuff. I stopped smoking May 1st, 2019. I haven’t smoked at all since then. Today will make 87 days clean. I have a hair test at the end of August possibly early September at the latest. Assuming I take the test first of September I will be at 120+ days clean. Will i be ok?

Hello Aaron, thank you for your question. The lab will take about 1.5 inches of your hair from the root (they collect the “baby” hair). If you didn’t have THC in your bloodstream in the past 120 days and if you managed to grow about 1.5 inches of hair, you should be fine. But that’s a big if. Average hair growth is 0.5 inches/month. So, in 4 months you should grow about 2 inches of hair and be safe. However, while those 2 inches of hair were growing, you probably had some leftover THC in your bloodstream that could go into your hair follicles and into the new hair. Basically, you can’t be sure. I would advise testing yourself with a home kit. If it’s negative, you have nothing to worry about, if it’s positive, you should start washing your hair accordingly (explained a bit in the article above).

    Hello you all.
    Adding to Aaron’s question.

    Same situation here. Years/everyday.
    120 days is a maybe.
How long do you believe for users like us, we will start getting clean hair?
I have heard only after 180 day to start to get new hair…
today is my 115th day and I still don’t feel confortable due to this 180 day information. Would you be kind and write more abou it ?

Hello Daniel, the THC from weed is absorbed by the hair follicles and eventually goes in the new hair. If you’re a chronic smoker smoking on a daily basis, the THC can be detected in every inch of your hair. On a hair drug test, they take 1.5 inches of your hair from the scalp up. The old hair from the times of everyday smoking is filled with THC; however, the new hair does not contain THC and, luckily, they test the new hair – 1.5 inches of it.

If you’ve managed to grow those 1.5 inches of new hair without THC, you’ll be alright. Average hair growth is about 0.5 inches per month; in 3 months an average person should be ok. However, your hair might not grow with average speed and/or you might still have had a substantial THC in your fat tissue even after your last joint – both of these can prolong how long your hair will test positive for weed.

180 days is a safe bet. 90 days is not. Anything in between is a rough estimate; a rough estimate that a home hair drug test can clear up pretty quickly.

      Hope this helps.

Hi, I was a regular smoker, just under 1g per day spread out in probably 5-6 joints of average to upper grade per day (for almost 20 years) until the 1st july when I stopped both cannabis and tobacco (smoked 5-6 cigs a day). I separated from my sons mother a year ago and basically she can accuse me of smoking around my child and have me tested at any stage (problem being the test will not prove when I smoked it even if not in the presence of my child) I have no date for any sort of test so I imagine that I could get past 90 days without smoking before any sort of accusation. What would the rough pass rate of smoking one of the joints described above have on a hair follicle test in your opinion?
no one seems to be able to equate the margin of error for detection in terms of volume smoked as obviously there is so many factors to consider. Im 6ft1, 83kg, do weights, shampoo hair daily etc

Given the nature of the hair drug test (it can’t really tell the difference between smoking 1 week ago or 2 months ago), you can always argue for a urine drug test (standard one) which shows if you’ve smoked in the last 1 week, for example.

A 0.2 g joint is likely not to be detected at all in a hair drug test. The whole process of THC lung absorption, distribution via the bloodstream to hair follicles and growth of the new hair produces losses on every step; the likelihood of measurable amount of THC from 0.2 g joint to end up in your newly grown hair is low.

I was smoking off and on a 3-4 times a week and maybe 2-3 joints a day when I did smoke what chance do I have with passing a hair follicle test and what should I do?

Hello Papa, for a hair drug test you’re looking at around 90 days. Currently, you have a very high chance of failing a hair drug test. Fortunately, in a majority of cases, they will test your urine and you already have a good fix for that. Best of luck!

Hello David. So the logic here is pretty straight forward – if you don’t have hair, they can’t run a hair drug test on you. The hair drug test is not calibrated for hair length under 0.5 inches. They might opt for a urine drug test is such a case because it’s the only thing they can do.

I hit a dab threw a nectar collector mid December. Just had a hair follicle done but they took my arm hair. Before December I hit a dab twice in November and that’s been it for a loong time. Should I be loooking for a new job? I was really hoping they’d take hair from the scalp since I shaved it before Christmas.

I have been clean for 192 days and before that I only smoked 2 times in July and 2 times in September. Before that, I never smoked. I am only freaking out about my drug test because I have been to clubs and parties where it is hotboxed and I am scared that I could fail a hair drug test. Will I be fine?

Hello, I haven’t smoked in almost 8 weeks currently.
My head is bald already and I shaved all my body hair down to 1/2 inch and under.

I am still doing the old style aloe detox shampoo everyday until my test and the Zydot ultra clean shampoo/conditioner day of treatment..
Not sure when the test is exactly yet. I think my chances are decent…Thoughts?

Hi Tito, if you shaved all your body hair, you are good to go. Honestly, not many people are prepared to shave all of their body to pass a drug test; if you do that, they cannot really test with hair drug test since it wouldn’t be a valid test without 1.5 inch hair samples.
